“To paint is to record your experiences” Margaret Fitzgerald
When I’m painting from a place that’s unknown, or a place where Im trying for something that I don’t completely understand I risk failure. That is the place that I like to be when I am painting , especially when Im moving on from where Ive been that’s become somewhat known.
When I paint , I paint my environment, the physical and mental space that surrounds me. Painting is a way to process and say something about where I live and what I see, feel, intuit and hear.
I think at its core, painting for me, is about survival, struggle and resistance.
Margaret Holman Fitzgerald was born in London, England. She grew up in Japan and the United States. She studied fine art and art history in New York City at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League. She also studied at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of New Mexico.
Margaret has enjoyed solo shows in New York City, San Francisco and New Mexico. Her work is in private and corporate collections across the United States and abroad
